Welcome to 2JT!
Our topic this half term is 'Where in the world is Africa?' and we will be learning about life on a different continent including climate, population and environmental differences.
The term will begin with identifying the features of non-chronological reports and building up our bank of sentence structures. We will eventually create our own African animal and write a report about how to care for it.
Later on in the term, we will read the story of Handa's Surprise.
In maths, we will be looking at adding and subtracting two 2 digit numbers; 3D shapes; telling the time and multiplication and division facts for the 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables.
The Science unit which we will be covering during the half term will be about animals and their habitats including adaptations of animals and food chains.
Homework will be given each Friday and will almost always consist of a Maths or Literacy activity to be completed and handed in by the following Wednesday; and spellings to be practised throughout the week for a test each Thursday. In addition all the children have their own ongoing targets to practise.
Reading books should be in school every day and the children do need to be reading at home for at least ten minutes every day at this stage. Please sign your child’s reading record when they have read so that books can be changed regularly. As the half term progresses, the children will also have access to other books on their band on Bug Club!
Our PE day this year is Friday. Please ensure that your child’s PE kit, consisting of a white tee shirt, navy shorts and pumps, is in school. We will send PE kits home at the end of each half term so that they can be washed and returned to school after the holidays.
