Welcome to 2JT!
Welcome back to school! We hope that you had a lovely half term and are ready to dive straight back into learning.
Until Christmas, we will be learning about the following:
Maths - addition and subtraction; measures and multiplication
We will be continuing to add and subtract numbers within 100. We will be adding and subtracting multiples of ten and learning how to add two 2 digit numbers.
Later in the term, we'll be getting money wise by counting coins, making totals and even being shopkeepers by finding the right change.
Just before Christmas, we'll be learning our 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables.
English - The Owl who was afraid of the dark; reports
Straight after the holidays we'll be jumping into a narrative unit about Plop, the owl who was afraid of the dark. We will be writing a character description of this unusual character and even adding our own endings to the story.
Later on, we'll be learning more about woodland animals and writing non chronological reports about them.
This half term our topic is a Science led unit.
Science - Why would an owl not make a good pet?
We will be learning about different types of pets and why they are suitable to have in our homes. We will be looking at habitats, diet and food chains during this unit. We also have a few treats up our sleeves for you during this unit - watch this space!
Homework will be given each Friday and will almost always consist of a Maths or Literacy activity to be completed and handed in by the following Wednesday; and spellings to be practised throughout the week for a test each Thursday. In addition all the children have their own ongoing targets to practise.
Reading books should be in school every day and the children do need to be reading at home for at least ten minutes every day at this stage. Please sign your child’s reading record when they have read so that books can be changed regularly. As the half term progresses, the children will also have access to other books on their band on Bug Club!
Our PE days this year are Monday and Thursday. Please ensure that your child’s PE kit, consisting of a white tee shirt, navy shorts and pumps, is in school. During the colder months, your child can wear a tracksuit during PE lessons. We will send PE kits home at the end of each half term so that they can be washed and returned to school after the holidays.
