Welcome to 2JT!
Our topic this half term is a rollover and remains as 'Who started the Great Fire of London?' We will be looking at Samuel Pepys' diary and getting into role by writing our own version. We will be learning about why the fire spread so quickly and where the firefighters were.
We will begin with reading and writing instructions and will also be writing a recount in role as an eyewitness to the great fire.
In maths, we will be looking at addition and subtraction, fractions, position and direction and practising our measuring skills.
The Science unit which we will be covering during the half term will be about the needs of humans and other animals, as well as investigating what healthy eating means.
Homework will be given each Friday and will almost always consist of a Maths or Literacy activity to be completed and handed in by the following Wednesday; and spellings to be practised throughout the week for a test each Thursday. In addition all the children have their own ongoing targets to practise.
Reading books should be in school every day and the children do need to be reading at home for at least ten minutes every day at this stage. Please sign your child’s reading record when they have read so that books can be changed regularly. As the half term progresses, the children will also have access to other books on their band on Bug Club!
Our PE day this year is Friday. Please ensure that your child’s PE kit, consisting of a white tee shirt, navy shorts and pumps, is in school. We will send PE kits home at the end of each half term so that they can be washed and returned to school after the holidays.
