The children will need to bring:
Why do so many people go to the Mediterranean for their holidays?
Over the next five weeks, the children will be learning all about the Mediterranean. 3JS will have an opportunity to taste different Mediterranean foods, locate the Mediterranean and explain why it is a popular holiday destination.
In science, the children will be learning all about light. They will be looking specifically at answering the questions below:
What is a light source and why is light important?
Why is the sun so important?
How are shadows formed?
Can we make our own shadow puppets?
Why do shadows change throughout the day?
The childrens' literacy sessions will involve cross curricular writing as the children will complete an advert for a Mediterranean villa.
Birthday Book Treats!
To celebrate Ibukun's birthday, Ibukun generously brought each child of 3JS their own reading book to school.
This half term the children will be learning all about the Industrial Revolution.
Over the Christmas holidays, the children were asked to complete a homework research task on this area. As part of our first topic session, this week the children were given the opportunity to show and tell all of their findings and knowledge on this new topic area. A lesson thoroughly enjoyed by all.
On the 26th January we will be taking a trip to Quarry Bank Mill (one of Britain's greatest industrial heritage sites) where the children will get to see and experience how a complete industrial community lived. Warm clothes will be needed on this day.
In science, 3JS will be learning all about forces and magnets and in Literacy the children will be writing a persuasive letter and a recount piece based on the Industrial Revolution. The focus in maths this half term, will be on the written methods for multiplication and division. Please encourage your child to practice their six timetables at home in preparation for their passport tests.
Welcome back after the half term holidays!
Excitingly, the Sale Sharks Rugby afternoon will begin this Friday (4th November) and will take place every Friday for this half term. Can you please ensure that your child has their P.E kit in school for this session, as well as a Wednesday as 3JS will have their usual P.E session then.
Year 3 trip
On Thursday 3rd November, year three will take part in their first trip of the school year to Knowsley Safari Park.
High frequency words and Math passports
At the end of the year, your child is expected to be able to read and spell a selection of high frequency words, as well as being able to complete the tasks set on the math passports. Below are an attached copy of the key words and Australasia passport for year three.
Thursday 22nd September 2016
Today, 3JS had a blast performing "surgery" on their contractions.
We have been learning how to create contractions, as our spelling focus for this week is ‘Apostrophe for contractions’. We did our very own ‘word surgery’ and chopped up some words, using apostrophe plasters to stick them back together.
A morning filled with hands-on contraction fun!
I hope you have all had a memorable and enjoyable summer.
The teacher and teaching assistant of 3JS this year is Miss Scrivner and Miss Roscoe.
In our topic this half term, we will focus on The Stone Age. The children will learn all about The Stone Age people, how they lived and their place in history. They will also have the opportunity to create their own cave paintings.
P.E will take place on a Wednesday morning. Children are therefore expected to have with them; a white tee shirt, navy shorts and pumps for their P.E session.
The children were informed at the start of the school year that they will be taking part in a Rugby session on a Friday afternoon. This has now changed. The Rugby afternoon will not start until after the next half term holidays. The first session will take place on Friday 4th November and will run for that half term only, on a Friday afternoon. During this time, can you ensure that your child has their P.E kit in school on both a Wednesday and Friday.
Homework will be sent out on a Friday and will usually include spellings and piece of maths or literacy. The children are also expected to read at home regularly. The homework due in date is a Wednesday.
An adult will hear your child read at least once a week; therefore please could you ensure your child has their book and reading record in school every day.
To encourage reading at home, we have a class reading chart in 3JS that is checked every morning. To get a point on the chart, your child’s reading record has to be dated and signed. The children receive a prize once their line on the chart is completed.
