Reception
Here are the key books we study in class in Reception. Below, you can click the document to find out more about how and why we use these books.
Autumn 1
During our literacy sessions we engage in fun activities and games to encourage our young learners to explore well-known stories and practise fundamental reading skills. Introducing our reception children to the joy of reading is essential in encouraging an early engagement with books, as well as confidence in both reading and writing on their own.

The Little Red Hen (part 2)

Autumn 2
This half term we have introduced reading buddies to our reading area. The buddies love being read to and the children have been enjoying sharing celebration books with them. We have Max the dog, Daphne the dog, Gereldene the giraffe and the twins Barney and Bruce the bears.
We now have book reviews in our reading area which the children have been enjoying filling in. They have been recommending books they've enjoyed to their friends.
We have also been reading detectives looking for reception high frequency words in the stories.
Spring 1
This half term we have looked at the story Handa's Surprise. We orally rehearsed the story using a story map and actions to help us. We innovated the story to make up our own class stories. Take a look at some of our story maps below.
Library Visit
RSB have had a marvellous time at the library. The children listened to Steph, the librarian, who talked to the children about loaning books, we listened to Steph read us a story called rumble in the jungle and then we all had time to look at picture books in the junior section. The children’s behaviour was impeccable, as always, and we are so proud of them.
