Pupil Premium
Pupil premium is additional funding provided to state funded schools in England to raise the attainment of pupils from low-income families and to close the gap between them and their peers.
Funding is based on children who have registered for a free school meal. There are two types of free school meals , Universal (UFSM) and Free school meals (FSM) .All children who are in reception, year 1 or year 2 are offered a UFSM meal as part of the Government’s initiative. Pupils in years 3 to 6 are offered a FSM if their parents receive certain benefits.
Applying for free meals even if your child is in reception, year 1 or year 2 could raise an extra £1,455 for your child’s education and could fund valuable support like extra tuition, additional teaching staff or after school activities.
It is therefore important to apply for pupil premium even if your child is in reception, year 1 or year 2, so that your child receives as much funding as possible.
Do you qualify?
Your child will be eligible to receive Pupil Premium if you receive one of the benefits below:
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- the Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit, provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an income income that does not exceed £16,190
- Working Tax Credit 'run-on' - the payment someone receive for a further weeks after they stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit.
- Universal Credit - if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)

Pupil premium strategy
"It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium, allocated to schools per FSM pupil, is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility.” Source - DfE website
