Admission to Nursery

At Fairfield Road Primary School, we have one intake into Nursery each September. Children can join our Nursery as long as they turn four during the year they start. For example, if your child is 3 years old in November, they would join Nursery the following September. If your child is 3 years old in July, they would start the forthcoming September.

We offer both 15 hours Nursery places (8.45am - 11.45am) and 30 hours places (8.45am - 3.15pm). For further information on the the 30-hour places and to check eligibility please visit the Childcare Choices website.

We follow the Tameside Council policy for Nursery admissions, which can be viewed here. It is important to note that admission to our Nursery does not automatically guarantee a place in Reception. For a place in Reception, you must still apply through your local council.

To apply for your child's Nursery place, simply click here to download the application form. Alternatively, paper copies are available from the school office.

Letters regarding Nursery places for September 2025 will be sent to parents/carers in the spring term, and parents/carers will need to accept the place.

Admission to Reception

Children start school in the September of the school year in which they turn 5, meaning most children are 4 years old when they start in Reception. Children born between 1  September 2020 and 31 August 2021 are eligible to start school in September 2025.

We follow the Tameside Council Admission Policy, and all applications for Reception places are processed by the admissions department of the local council in which you reside. The school remains neutral in this process.

Parents are asked to submit their application online. If you are a Tameside resident please apply by clicking here and if you are a Manchester resident please click here.

If you need any assistance making the application or need access to a computer, please let us know, as we can help you with this. Both Tameside Local Council and Manchester Local Council provide a wealth of information about the process on their websites, should you need any further details.

Appeals

If your child has not been allocated a place at Fairfield Road Primary School and you think that there are important reasons why your child should attend here, you can appeal to the Independent Appeal Panel.

The members of the Appeal Panel are totally independent and will not have any connection with either the Council or the school. If they decide you have a good case, in certain circumstances, they can give you a place.

Regardless of the council that you submitted your application to, all appeals should be made by clicking here.
