Year 1

 Welcome to Year 1!

Welcome back everyone! We hope you all had a great holiday and are refreshed and ready for lots of learning and fun filled activities this half term!

Our topic this half term is ‘Why is the Wii more fun than Grandma and Grandad’s toys?’ and we will be reading Dogger and Old Bear stories. We will be writing about toys and how they move and even our own set of instructions for a toy we make. So lots of fun ahead!

In Science we will be looking at seasonal changes including Spring and also at the forces that make toys move.

In Art and DT we will be exploring how toys move and having lots of fun making a couple of moving toys to fit with our topic work. So get your thinking caps on, what toys could they be?

Please can I remind you that your child's reading book needs to be in school every day, so if we have the opportunity we can listen to your child read additionally throughout the week. Reading is important and if you have the time we would appreciate it if you could listen to your child read at home. Thank you.

PE day is Wednesday and Friday’s and we ask for your child to wear the correct PE Kit (white T-shirt, blue shorts and black pumps) and could you please label it clearly. We will send PE Kits home each half term so they can be washed and returned after the holidays for the next half term.

Homework is given out Fridays and this half term it will be a list of spellings for your child to learn at home over the week. They will be tested Friday mornings on their spellings and then a new set of spellings will be given out to the children at the end of the day for the next week. Please make sure they learn these spellings as they are part of the Year 1 curriculum.

Please feel free to get in touch at any time. Mrs Birchenall and Mrs Jackson are available to speak to you on the door in the mornings and we are always available at the end of the school day.
