                        Welcome to Year One!

Welcome back everyone! We hope you all had a great holiday and are refreshed and ready for lots of learning and fun filled activities this half term!

We will be reading Meerkat Mail written by Emily Gravett this half term. We will be writing postcards and reports. This will have lots of links to Geography where we will be learning about the continents and oceans of the world aswell as the polar regions.

In Science we will be looking at seasonal changes (Winter) and what it is like to live in the North Pole and in the desert. Where would you prefer to live?

In Art and DT we will be mixing primary colours to make secondary colours and making collages out of different materials and learning all about the Russian artist 'Kandinsky'.

Please can I remind you that your child's reading book needs to be in school every day, so if we have the opportunity we can listen to your child read additionally throughout the week. Reading is important and if you have the time we would appreciate it if you could listen to your child read at home. Thank you.

PE day is Tuesday and we ask for your child to wear the correct PE Kit (white T-shirt, blue shorts and black pumps) and could you please label it clearly. We will send PE Kits home each half term so they can be washed and returned after the holidays for the next half term.

Homework is given out Fridays and this half term it will be a list of spellings for your child to learn at home over the week. They will be tested Friday mornings on their spellings and then a new set of spellings will be given out to the children at the end of the day for the next week. The list of spellings will also be posted on dojo. Please make sure they learn these spellings as they are part of the Year 1 curriculum.

Please feel free to get in touch at any time. Mrs Suddons and Mrs Woolley are available to speak to you on the door in the mornings and we are always available at the end of the school day.
