Welcome back everyone! We hope you all had a great holiday and are refreshed and ready for lots of learning and fun filled activities this half term! We are in Summer 2 and coming towards the end of our time together in Year One!

Our topic this half term is ‘Why are humans not like tigers?' and will be reading the books 'The tiger who came to tea' and 'Bog Baby'. We will be writing about our favourite animals, describing animals as well as writing/sending out invitations. Lots of fun ahead! Watch out for those wild and strange animals - they may visit us!

In Science we will be identifying and naming different animals, learning what the words carnivore, herbivore and omnivore mean and also naming and labelling the parts of our own bodies.

In Art and DT we will be sketching zoo animals, making animal masks and 3D animals out of plasticine/clay. So get your thinking caps on - what does your Bog Baby look like? We cannot wait to see!

Please can I remind you that your child's reading book needs to be in school every day, so if we have the opportunity we can listen to your child read additionally throughout the week. Reading is important and if you have the time we would appreciate it if you could listen to your child read at home. Thank you.

PE day is Wednesday we ask for your child to wear the correct PE Kit (white T-shirt, blue shorts and black pumps) and could you please label it clearly. We will send PE Kits home each half term so they can be washed and returned after the holidays for the next half term.

Homework is given out Fridays and this half term it will be a list of spellings for your child to learn at home over the week. They will be tested on a Friday on their spellings and then a new set of spellings will be given out to the children at the end of the day for the next week. Please make sure they learn these spellings as they are part of the Year 1 curriculum. You can submit these spellings via dojo so we can reward the children.

Please feel free to get in touch at any time. Mrs Birchenall or Mrs Jackson are available to speak to you on the door in the mornings and we are always available at the end of the school day.
