Welcome to Year 3!
You'll have a great time during the year and will soon feel at home in 3CL and 3GJ. The staff in Year 3 are Mrs Liley, Miss Johnston, Miss Ruderham and Mrs Meisuria.
PE
PE will be on a Tuesday. You will need to keep a PE kit in school (It will be sent home each half term for a wash!). Our school PE kit consists of a white T-shirt, navy shorts and trainers/pumps. In winter months you may wish to send your child in with additional layers. Please name all P.E kit items.
Homework
The homework expectation is for each child to read a minimum of 3 times a week. Reading books need to be taken home every night and the reading record signed and dated by an adult when a child has read. We also expect children to be practising their weekly spellings. These will be sent home at the start of each half term and spares will be readily available for any that get misplaced.
We look forward to working with you all this year!

Topics covered in PSHE
Spring 1
Happy New Year
We all hope you have had a wonderful break and we welcome you back to Spring 1.
History
This term we will be continuing to explore the Industrial revolution, the effect it had on Manchester and a focus on LS Lowry and his work from that era. We have already been lucky enough to visit Portland Basin in relation to this and are very excited to be going to The Science and Industry Museum in Manchester to extend first hand experiences even further!
Maths
Passports will continue to be regularly visited with a focus on the 3,4 and 8 times table.
Lessons will consist of building on these skills and gaining a deeper knowledge by investigating inverse operations and number facts; pictorally, through fluency and reasoning.
English
The we have chosen the beautifully written and illustrated story 'The journey' by Francesca Sanna as a starting point. A beautiful and powerful story which raises conversations about fears of the unknown, refugees and hope. The children will be asked to write a narrative with a focus on description of a setting in forest surroundings.
RE
The children will inquiring and debating 'What different people believe about God?' comparing and contrasting diverse faiths and ideals.
Please continue to practise spellings, visit TT Rockstars, Bug Club and listen to your child read at least 3 times a week.
Thank you for your on-going support.
The year 3 team.
